Ludhiana Highlights | With the promise of reunion, the 12th day of the Saras Mela ended yesterday. The last day’s function was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal.
While addressing the fair, the Deputy Commissioner said that Ludhianvis enjoyed the culture, music and rituals of different states. The officers / employees have fully entrusted their duty with dedication, which is why the Saras Mela has been very successful. Products of approximately 23.3 million at the different stalls were sold in 12 days. About 4.5 lakh to 5 lakh people of the district have enjoyed the fair during these 12 days and the people thanked the administration for organizing the Saras Mela.
Furniture Stall from U.P sold furniture of about 8 lakh, stall owners were honored by the district administration by giving a memento. Manjit Kaur’s Ekta Club (Self Help Group) sold pickles of 650,000 rupees, which was honored for a good sale. While honoring these groups, the Deputy Commissioner said that women with their small scale business can make their living better by earning good money.
On this occasion, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur village from village Bahadurke, Block Sidhwan Bet was honored under ‘Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao’ slogan. It would be worth mentioning that the head of the group, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, graduated from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, decided to do something to support the home economy in 2002, but before starting any work there was a shortage of resources. She formed a group of 15 women and decided to take agriculture land on lease. There was no support from home earlier for this work. In half acre of land, they started carrots, peas, capsicum and garlic farming and they succeeded in this work at the very first year.
